Gertie

Gertie is a Locust Street girl…

She lives on the south end between the city park and the woods at the edge of town. She spends a lot of time with the little girl that lives in Doc Moser’s house. They like to make new clothes for their paper dolls and play hopscotch and jump rope, but their favorite thing to do is cook dandelion stew on the old stove out on the back porch. Gertie is all fancied up in her best dress because today is Mother’s Day and she has a gift for her Mama. Gertie has worked hard to keep the gift a secret. She knows it is just right and can hardly wait to watch her Mama open it.

Millie is a shy, quiet bunny from Locust Street, but in the company of friends, she is also playful and a bit comical. She is ready for the Easter Hop yard dance in her best dress, carrying a basket of freshly picked flowers from her mother's garden. The dance will be held in Doc Moser’s side yard this year, under the persimmon tree, where the grass is extra thick and soft. She plans to kick up her heels and dance until her legs haven't a jig left in them. She doesn’t socialize much, since she helps her mother with the younger litter of bunnies, but she wouldn’t miss this occasion for the world. Perhaps she will meet the buck of her dreams there!

Stephanie is a Locust Street rat. No one really knows where she came from. She just showed up one day looking hungry and pitiful. The kind folk on Locust Street took her in and were very kind to her until she showed her true colors. While most rats on Locust Street have a home and a family, this one does not. She scurries from one home to another to see what treasures she can find and hide in her ratty purse. She has been known to sleep at four different houses in a weekend to get whatever she could steal away with. She will brave crossing the highway or even venture many blocks away to the broom factory if she overhears a whisper of something she may want, but she won't hesitate to take from her acquaintances either. There isn't a speck of loyalty in this rat. She may say she will trade something or pay back a debt, but she never does. It would be wise to keep an eye out for this rat.

ellen says everyone needs a life list. Here is mine:

* expect less perfection from myself and the rest of the world
* discover why two naked people in their own bathtub by the ocean means they have the guys ED under control
* reunite with my old friend Darlinda Toothaker
* be able to pay my bills without worrying what will be left in my checking account
* revisit Honolulu as an adult to compare reality to childhood memories

Creating is my favorite thing

One day my sister said, "why don't you make a doll? They are so much fun!" After several weeks of her saying this, I decided I would make one and show her how stupid looking it was and she would leave me alone about it. Well, through all the mistakes and redoing on this silly little rabbit doll, I kept thinking of the really cute things I could do with this.

Now, I try to squeeze in as much time as I can each day, nurturing my little creatures and tending them carefully before I rush out the door to my job. Always in the back of my mind are the beginnings of more little creatures begging to be created. Just think of it........bunnies, mice, puppies, kittens, and then there are people! There's no end to it.
